Wayne, Indiana.  During the past 30+ years, Pastor Steve has served congregations in Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota.   He has been an LCMC pastor since 2006.  His hobbies include outdoor activities, home remodeling and reading.

Lisa Chellew was born in Minneapolis, MN; and lived in Rochester during her high school years.  She graduated from Wartburg College with a degree in religion and psychology.  She is a certified Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, earning her master’s from Drake University.  Lisa has worked in this field for Federal, State and City governments.  Her hobbies include cooking and baking, and spending time outdoors.

The Chellew’s have five children and three grandchildren.  Jen and her husband Ben are currently stationed in Virginia.  Ben is an officer in the U. S. Navy, having previously served six years with the U. S. Air Force.  Jen is a stay at home mom caring for daughters Claire, Nora, and Jane.  Matthew is an officer with the U. S. Ryan and his wife, Lynae, live in Omaha Nebraska.  Joshua works as a construction engineer for Henkel Construction in Mason City, Iowa.  Caitlyn is the family artist, working her craft, while also serving at the Public Library in Ames, Iowa.

Pastor Steve served his internship year in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and has numerous relatives both in Wisconsin and the Twin Cities.  Depending on how the season goes, he may root for either the Packers or the Vikings, but mostly the Packers.  Lisa is a die-hard Vikings fan.  Such is life.

Rushford Lutheran Church is a member of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ.

LCMC is an association of congregations and individuals who are:
  • Free in Christ;
  • Accountable to one another;
  • Rooted in the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions;
  • Working together to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations.

The LCMC is a post-denominational association of congregations who are like minded and believe that the church is wherever God’s people gather together around word and sacrament.  The primary focus is on the local congregation and our calling to fulfill God’s Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) in this place.

RLC is a member of the Augustana District of LCMC.

Statement of Beliefs

  • We believe, teach, and confess the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe, teach, and confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe in him.
  • Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom everything was made and through whose life, death, and resurrection God fashions a new creation.
  • The proclamation of God’s message to us as both law and gospel is the Word of God, revealing judgment and mercy in the person and work of Jesus Christ through whom God was pleased to reconcile all things to himself.
  • The canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God. Inspired by God’s Spirit speaking through their authors, they record and announce God’s revelation centering in Jesus Christ. Through them God’s Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the world.
  • We believe, teach, and accept the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the sole authoritative source and norm of our proclamation, faith, and life.
  • We accept the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of the scriptural faith we believe, teach, and confess.
  • We believe, teach, and accept the Unaltered Augsburg Confession and the Small Catechism as true witnesses to the Word of God, normative for our teaching and practice. We acknowledge that we are one in faith and doctrine with all churches that likewise accept the teachings of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession.
  • We believe, teach, and confess the other confessional writings in the Book of Concord namely, the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, the Smalcald Articles, the Treatise, the Large Catechism, and the Formula of Concord, as further valid expositions of the Holy Scriptures.
  • We believe, teach, and confess the gospel, recorded in the Holy Scriptures and confessed in the ecumenical creeds and Lutheran confessional writings, as the power of God to create and sustain the priesthood of all believers for God’s mission in the world.

Rushford Lutheran Church History

God’s call to worship and stewardship has been strong from the beginning.

The first Lutheran worship, by people who would organize Rushford Lutheran Church, took place on June 15th, 1855.
The first pastor was called four years later, and the congregation was formally incorporated in 1861.
The congregation has continued to grow, and in 1906-1907 the current building was built at the corner of Mill Street and Rushford Avenue.
The congregation has been served by 20 pastors in the last 14 decades. Rushford Lutheran Church now has 961 members representing 408 families.
